Sausage & Bacon Pasta

Sausage & Bacon Pasta

Pasta is one of our favourite dishes in the Abatan household, left to my son’s devices it will be pasta for breakfast, lunch and dinner. That aside this dish is so easy to make that if you plan ahead you can wrap it and have you or your family tucking in after ½ an hour, but if you are feeling adventurous you can make your own pasta taking the preparation time to an hour.

The attraction of this dish lends to the simplicity of an english breakfast, but the end result is a perfect lunch or dinner that is enjoyed by the whole family. So why not try this dish and let me know how you got on?

Make your own pasta sauce it is cheaper

Until 5 years ago I use to buy ready made pasta sauce, then I had an eureka moment. I asked myself why am I spending £5.00 on almost 2 jars of pasta sauce, when I can make my own? A bottle of  680g passata costs £1 and 400g crushed tomatoes cost 50p. By the time I add basil and the stock cubes, I am already making a saving equivalent to half the price of what I may spend if I decided to buy the pasta sauce off the shelf. You can even make sufficient pasta sauce which you can use at a later date.

  1. 750g dry pasta
  2. 400g chopped tomatoes
  3. 200g passata sauce
  4. 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  5. 1 medium onion diced
  6. 1 or 2 cloves of garlic crushed
  7. 2 tablespoons rapeseed oil
  8. 10 cumberland sausages
  9. 8 rashers of bacon
  10. 2 beef or pork stock cubes
  11. Bunch of basil chopped

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees C
  2. Place the sausages in a baking tray and place in oven for 15 minutes
  3. Heat the oil in large saucepan
  4. Add the chopped onions and garlic a few minutes later
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes and passata sauce, also add the sugar to reduce the acidity of the tomatoes
  6. Add the stock cubes
  7. Boil 1.5 litres of water in a saucepan and add the pasta and cook for about 8 minutes for fusilli shaped pasta
  8. After 15 minutes add the bacon on top of the sausages and bake for another 10 minutes
  9. Cut up the sausage and bacon and add to the pasta sauce
  10. Drain the pasta and add to the sauce
  11. Cut up the basil and mix into the pasta
  12. Serve immediately adding grated cheese if required
  13. Enjoy!
